Plating material for pogo pin connector

Dec 25, 2021

The pogo pin connector is processed by precision CNC machine tools. In order to improve the pogo pin's electrical conductivity, wear resistance, welding strength, oxidation resistance, corrosion prevention, etc., it must be added The last protective cover is "plating"; the following will tell you about the characteristics of different electroplating materials and the properties of electroplating materials used in pogo pin connectors.

  1, tin

There are three main types of tin plating, namely pre-tin plating, pre-coating, and electroplating.

The characteristics of tin: tin is relatively soft, protective to prevent corrosion, relatively cheap, easy to solder, the thickness of the coating is 2-12μ

Color: silvery white, dark, or shiny.

Brass or bronze tin-plated with a temperature resistance of 110 degrees, steel tin-plated can reach 190 degrees.

  2, gold

Electroplating gold is the best planting method for the existing electrical contacts. It is relatively soft and resistant to corrosion. It does not dissolve in pure acid, has good electrical conductivity, and is relatively expensive. Therefore, the selective gold plating process is more reasonable. Gold-plated only within the meshing range.

Gold plating generally chooses nickel plating first to achieve a better anti-corrosion effect.

  3, Palladium

The precious metal palladium is used in electroplating to replace gold in some limited areas. AMP only uses palladium in the metal solder layer (hard gold method)

The conductivity of palladium is much worse than that of gold.

  4, nickel

It is more expensive, it is a silver-white metal, its conductivity is also poor, it is hard, and its appearance is smooth. It is often used in the gold-plated underlayer, and its weldability is relatively poor. Most of the steel contacts are nickel-plated (must be copper-plated first), Nickel-plated copper can withstand the temperature of 340 degrees, brass and bronze can reach 250 degrees.

  5, silver

The gloss is white, it is a precious metal, it is very soft, conductive is also very good, it is prone to inert oxidation, so it is easy to lose luster, brass or bronze tinned can withstand the temperature of 110 degrees, copper can withstand temperature 250 degrees.

  6, copper

Copper is often used in the basic plating; tin-plated contacts can change its solderability; usually, for better adhesion, the choice of steel will be more copper-plated.
